November 20, 2023: Hello everyone. A little reading information on how you can protect yourself from "Credit Card Leaking". It's a thing, REALLY. I use a little antivirus called TREND MICRO. I have used them since 2012 and completely endorse this antivirus. Check them out here. https://news.trendmicro.com/2022/01/01/5-ways-to-avoid-a-credit-card-leak-during-the-holidays/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email

July 31, 2022 - Here is a story for you. A friend of mine was doing a return to Amazon.ca. She needed to make sure the proper return went on the proper card. She looked up Amazon on the web. She called the 1-800 number that was posted. When she got through, the person on the other end started helping her by asking for her information. She complied. It was about 15 minutes in when she started to get the uneasy feeling something was wrong. Amazon would confirm her cards on file, not ask her for the numbers again. She complied. He made a small charge $0.02 to be exact. He then had her install Anydesk on her phone so he could connect to her phone to log into her account to verify the transaction.
The uneasy feeling got stronger, yet she complied feeling as though she was being taken care of. He connected to her phone and asked her to log into her visa. Account to verify. It was at this point both her husband and her STOPPED everything. They did not log into Visa or their Amazon.ca account and they disconnected Anydesk.
They told the person on the other end of the phone that they were no longer comfortable with this kind of help. The person became irate and started belittling them and calling the swearing started. They disconnected the call.
They called me asking what they should do. I told them to uninstall Anydesk on their phone. I told them they followed their “gut feeling that something was wrong” and they were right to disconnect the call. I also let them know the best way to do a return was through the Amazon.ca website or App. Most times you do not even speak with someone. The proper pay method is reversed, and all is good when you return the merchandise.
The moral of this story is: TRUST YOUR GUT. If something feels off, chances are, it is. Stop what you are doing, hang up or disconnect. Never give out your credit card information or any personal information to anyone online. You have no idea where or who you are talking to.
